Outdoors, marble works differently: sun, rain, frost, salt near the sea. The choice of material and finish matters more than the design. At SKARIS MARBLE we have clad squares and pedestrian streets of Thessaloniki, the Earth Theatre and the pedestal of Alexander the Great on the New Waterfront — we know what survives 30 winters.
What we make
- Exterior stairs and landings with anti-slip grooves or a textured surface.
- Garden walls, parapets, garden seating from solid pieces.
- Pool coping with a rounded edge and an anti-slip finish — honed, flamed or textured.
- Window sills and thresholds for windows, balcony doors, entrances — with a drip groove so the façade does not get stained.
- Façade and boundary-wall cladding, courtyard paving, porous limestone (poros stone) for traditional constructions.
Materials that last outdoors
- Granites: the safest choice for stairs and pools — Azul Platino, Baltic Brown, Black Stone.
- Hard Greek marbles: Kavala, Nestos, Thassos in a honed or textured finish.
- Porous limestone (white, yellow, Noche): a warm, traditional look for country houses and courtyards — needs sealing.
- Outdoors we avoid very soft or very dark polished marbles: dark polished stone “whitens” in the sun and gets hot.

Frequently asked questions
Does marble crack from frost? Water that enters the pores and freezes is the enemy. Hard materials, a correct drainage fall and sealing solve it — the marble of Thessaloniki’s squares is the proof.
Which finish around a pool? Never polished. Honed, flamed or textured, with a rounded edge.
Are all window sills the same? No: they are cut to the length of each opening, with a drip groove on the underside and a fall towards the outside. For apartment buildings we deliver with a list per floor.
Do you work in Chalkidiki? Yes — we also install in Chalkidiki.
