-Alaska Gold-
Description & Features
Alaska Gold is one of the golden granites of India; trade sources place its quarries in Rajasthan and northern India or in Karnataka, so the exact area is not regarded as certain, and the rock is described either as a monzonite or as a coarse pegmatitic rock. On the polished slab a warm salmon-peach and golden background dominates, against which large cream crystals and dark grey-black mineral clusters stand out and form a wavy flow; in places the tone leans towards beige-grey, and the variation from slab to slab is noticeable. According to an Indian exporter's data, apparent density is 2.72 g/cm³, water absorption 0.15%, compressive strength about 188 MPa (about 178 MPa after freezing) and hardness 6 Mohs. It is mainly supplied polished, while honed, leather or flamed finishes can be produced on request. It suits kitchen and bathroom countertops, islands, wall and fireplace cladding, interior floors, stairs and tables. As a silicate rock it is not etched by lemon or vinegar, but it does need sealing; if the slab has been reinforced with resin, as is common with Alaska-type slabs, solvents and hot cookware placed directly on it should be avoided.
Why choose Alaska Gold
- Warm golden-salmon tone with strong natural movement
- Every slab unique – for countertops with character
- Water absorption 0.15% (exporter data)
- Silicate rock – resists kitchen acids
Technical Specifications
| Geological Type | Igneous rock, commercially granite – coarse-grained (described as monzonite or pegmatitic rock; no petrographic analysis found for this variety) |
| Country of Origin | India |
| Color & Pattern | Warm salmon-peach and golden background with large cream areas and dark grey-black mineral clusters in a flowing, coarse-grained texture |
| Hardness (Mohs) | 6 (Indian exporter data) |
| Density (g/cm³) | 2.72 (apparent density – Indian exporter data) |
| Water Absorption (%) | 0.15 (Indian exporter data) |
| Compressive Strength (MPa) | ≈188 (1920 kg/cm²); 1810 kg/cm² (≈178) after freezing – Indian exporter data |
| Frost Resistance | Resistant according to exporter data (small strength loss after freezing, water absorption 0.15%); for outdoor floors a non-polished, slip-resistant finish is preferred |
| Acid Sensitivity | Resistant to household acids (silicate rock); if the slab has been reinforced with resin, avoid solvents and strong chemicals |
| Recommended Finishes | Polished, Other finishes (honed, leather, flamed etc.) on request |

Frequently Asked Questions
Export & project supply
SKARIS MARBLE supplies Alaska Gold to stone importers, fabricators, architects and hotel projects outside Greece. From our facility in Thessaloniki we handle the whole order in-house:
- Slab selection and matching – we grade and match the slabs for colour and veining, so a large order stays uniform across the whole project.
- Cut-to-size and finishing – pieces cut, edged and finished to your drawings, numbered per room or elevation and ready to install.
- Mixed shipments – Greek marbles, granites, porous limestone (porolithos) and quartz surfaces can be combined in one order.
- Export packing – crated and labelled for sea or road freight, ex-works Thessaloniki; delivered terms quoted on request.
Send us your drawings or quantities and we will come back with a quotation and availability.
