-Dalmatian White-
Description & Features
Dalmatian White belongs to the light-coloured granites of Egypt and owes its name to its distinctive pattern. Small, irregular black specks of dark minerals are spread evenly over a white to off-white, slightly greyish background, with grey, glassy quartz grains visible between them. The grain is fine to medium and the look is consistent across the slab, with no veins or strong variation, which makes continuity easy on large countertops and floors. As an igneous rock made of quartz and feldspar it is hard (about 6–7 on the Mohs scale) and is not etched by lemon, vinegar or wine. The values in the technical table are typical for granite, as no published tests were found for this particular trade variety. It is cut into slabs, tiles and custom pieces and supplied polished or honed, while flamed, leathered, bush-hammered or sandblasted finishes can be produced on request – the textured finishes are the right choice for slip-resistant exterior floors and stairs. It suits kitchen and bathroom countertops, floors, stairs, window sills, tables and cladding. Because the background is light, sealing countertops with an impregnating sealer and wiping up oils and staining liquids promptly are recommended.
Why choose Dalmatian White
- Bright white background with black specks, like a Dalmatian coat
- Hard granite (≈6–7 Mohs), resistant to scratching
- Not etched by kitchen acids
- Uniform look, easy continuity on large surfaces
Technical Specifications
| Geological Type | Igneous plutonic rock – granite (quartz, feldspars, dark minerals) |
| Country of Origin | Egypt |
| Color & Pattern | White to off-white, slightly greyish background with dense small black specks and grey quartz grains; fine to medium grain |
| Hardness (Mohs) | ≈6–7 (typical for granite: feldspar ≈6, quartz 7) |
| Density (g/cm³) | ≈2.6–2.7 (typical for granite – no test found for this variety) |
| Water Absorption (%) | ≈0.1–0.5 (typical for granite – no test found for this variety) |
| Compressive Strength (MPa) | ≈130–220 (typical for granite – no test found for this variety) |
| Flexural Strength (MPa) | ≈10–20 (typical for granite – no test found for this variety) |
| Frost Resistance | Generally resistant – granites with low water absorption withstand freeze–thaw cycles; for exterior floors and stairs choose a flamed or bush-hammered finish (no test found for this variety) |
| Acid Sensitivity | Resistant – as a silicate rock it is not etched by lemon, vinegar or wine; avoid strong acids and descaling cleaners, which damage the sealer and can dull the polish |
| Recommended Finishes | Polished, Honed, Flamed – for exterior use, Leathered, bush-hammered, sandblasted on request |
