-Premium Black-
Description & Features
Premium Black belongs to the family of Indian black granites that are also traded internationally as Absolute Black or Jet Black. Under the name Indian Premium Black the material is reported from a boulder quarry near Warangal, a town now in the state of Telangana, and it is a very old rock of Archean to Proterozoic age. Geologically, the black granites of this area are not true granites but dykes of dolerite, a dark igneous rock that is quarried commercially as black granite. The colour is deep and consistent, with a microscopic grain and minimal variation from slab to slab; polished, the surface acts like a mirror, while the leather finish gives a soft, matt-satin textured feel that hides fingerprints and water marks better. It is a dense material with very few micro-fissures; rocks of this type typically have a density of about 2.9–3.1 g/cm³ and very low water absorption, and as a silicate rock it resists household acids. It is suited to kitchen and bathroom countertops, islands, wall and fireplace cladding, floors, stairs, furniture and memorials. It is sealed with an impregnating sealer once it has fully dried after fabrication, and cleaned with neutral cleaners.
Why choose Premium Black
- Deep, even absolute black with minimal variation
- Mirror polish or matt leather texture
- Dense stone with very few micro-fissures
- A timeless choice for kitchens and memorials
Technical Specifications
| Geological Type | Igneous rock – commercial black granite of the absolute-black type; in the Warangal area black granites are quarried from dolerite dykes |
| Country of Origin | India |
| Quarry / Region | Warangal, Telangana (as traded internationally under this name) |
| Color & Pattern | Deep, even absolute black with a microscopic grain; mirror-like when polished, with a matt-satin texture in the leather finish |
| Hardness (Mohs) | ≈6 (typical for dolerite – no test found for this variety) |
| Density (g/cm³) | ≈2.9–3.1 (typical for dolerite / absolute black – no test found for this variety) |
| Water Absorption (%) | ≈0.05–0.2 (typical range for dolerite-type black granites – no test found for this variety) |
| Compressive Strength (MPa) | ≈200–300 (typical for dolerite – no test found for this variety) |
| Flexural Strength (MPa) | ≈15–30 (typical for dolerite – no test found for this variety) |
| Frost Resistance | Resistant – a very dense rock with minimal porosity, suitable for exterior use too; in strong sun black surfaces get very hot, and outdoor floors need a slip-resistant finish |
| Acid Sensitivity | Resistant to household acids (silicate rock, not etched the way marble is); avoid strong chemicals and abrasives, which dull the polish |
| Recommended Finishes | Polished, Leathered, Other finishes (honed, flamed, sandblasted etc.) on request |
