-Bianco Sardo-
Description & Features
Bianco Sardo is one of the best-known granites in Europe. It is quarried in north-eastern Sardinia, mainly around Buddusò and Alà dei Sardi, from plutonic bodies of Carboniferous age. It is medium- to coarse-grained: white and greyish-white feldspars alternate with grey glassy quartz and greyish-beige crystals, while shiny black biotite flakes are scattered across the surface; the tone is a bright light-to-mid grey that, from block to block, may take on subtle greenish, yellowish or pinkish hues. According to the DNSA database it has a density of 2.59 g/cm³, water absorption of 0.58%, compressive strength of 162 MPa (161 MPa after frost testing) and flexural strength of 14.2 MPa, while an Italian producer's data sheet gives 2.62 g/cm³, 0.40% and about 208 MPa. It is frost resistant, keeps its polish outdoors and is not attacked by acids under normal conditions. It is supplied polished, honed, brushed, flamed, bush-hammered or sandblasted and used for countertops, floors, stairs, window sills, facades and paving; sealing is recommended on countertops. A Chinese granite, G623, is also sold under the same name, but our Bianco Sardo is the Sardinian stone.
Why choose Bianco Sardo
- One of the best-known granites in Europe
- Frost resistant – keeps its polish outdoors
- Documented technical values (DNSA, producer data sheets)
- Bright grey for classic and contemporary projects
Technical Specifications
| Geological Type | Igneous plutonic rock – biotite granite (Carboniferous) |
| Country of Origin | Italy |
| Quarry / Region | Sardinia – Buddusò / Alà dei Sardi (north-eastern Sardinia) |
| Color & Pattern | Light to mid grey: white and greyish-white feldspars, greyish-beige crystals and black biotite flakes in a medium to coarse grain |
| Hardness (Mohs) | ≈6–7 (typical for granite) |
| Density (g/cm³) | 2.59–2.69 (2.59 per DNSA · ≈2.62 on an Italian producer's data sheet) |
| Water Absorption (%) | 0.30–0.58 (by weight; 0.58 per DNSA · 0.40 on a producer's data sheet) |
| Compressive Strength (MPa) | ≈162–208 (162 per DNSA, 161 after frost · 2125 kg/cm² ≈ 208 on a producer's data sheet) |
| Flexural Strength (MPa) | ≈12–14 (14.2 per DNSA · 125 kg/cm² ≈ 12.3 on a producer's data sheet) |
| Frost Resistance | Frost resistant (DNSA); compressive strength after frost testing remains practically unchanged (161 vs 162 MPa) and the polish holds up outdoors |
| Acid Sensitivity | Resistant to acids under normal conditions (DNSA) and relatively resistant to household chemicals; avoid strong acids and descaling cleaners |
| Recommended Finishes | Polished, Honed & brushed, Flamed, Bush-hammered & sandblasted |

Export & project supply
SKARIS MARBLE supplies Bianco Sardo to stone importers, fabricators, architects and hotel projects outside Greece. From our facility in Thessaloniki we handle the whole order in-house:
- Slab selection and matching – we grade and match the slabs for colour and veining, so a large order stays uniform across the whole project.
- Cut-to-size and finishing – pieces cut, edged and finished to your drawings, numbered per room or elevation and ready to install.
- Mixed shipments – Greek marbles, granites, porous limestone (porolithos) and quartz surfaces can be combined in one order.
- Export packing – crated and labelled for sea or road freight, ex-works Thessaloniki; delivered terms quoted on request.
Send us your drawings or quantities and we will come back with a quotation and availability.
