-Indian Red-

Granite India
Indian Red is a red granite from India with a vivid brick-red colour, an even medium grain and small dark specks. Its consistent tone and the strength of a silicate rock make it suitable for floors, stairs, building facades, window sills and memorials, indoors and outdoors.

Description & Features

Indian Red belongs to the red granites of India, where the trade name does not always point to the same quarry: it is used as a general export name, one trade source lists it among South Indian granites, and it is offered in coarse- and fine-grained versions. On the slab the colour is a vivid red to brick red, with an even medium grain, small black specks and sparse lilac-grey quartz grains, without veins or directional flow, so the look stays consistent over large surfaces. In appearance it recalls the even red granites of northern India, such as Jhansi Red from Uttar Pradesh and Lakha Red from Rajasthan. The red comes from potassium feldspar and iron oxides and, in the experience of the memorial trade, keeps its colour outdoors. For the similar-looking Jhansi Red, sources give a density of 2.6–2.8 g/cm³, compressive strength above 180 MPa, water absorption of 0.2–0.3% and good freeze–thaw resistance. It is supplied polished, while flamed, honed, leather or sandblasted finishes can be produced on request. It suits interior and exterior floors and stairs, facade cladding, window sills, countertops and memorials, where it takes engraving and gold or white lettering well. It resists household acids and needs sealing.

Why choose Indian Red

  • Vivid, even red with little variation
  • Engraves well – sets off gold or white lettering
  • Silicate rock for interior and exterior spaces
  • Consistent look across large floors and facades
