-Rosa Beta-
Description & Features
Rosa Beta, also known as Rosa Sardo or Sardinian Pink, is quarried in Gallura, north-eastern Sardinia, mainly in the Arzachena – Luogosanto basin, whose largest active quarrying district is the Bassacutena area. It belongs to the Corsica-Sardinia batholith (Late Carboniferous – Early Permian), and in 2019 the IUGS included it among the global heritage stones, as it has been used from prehistoric and Roman times to modern buildings in the USA, Asia and Australia. The grain is medium and even: white and light grey crystals, soft pink-to-salmon feldspars and fine black biotite specks form a gentle grey-pink look without veins. Technical data give a density of 2.58–2.65 g/cm³, water absorption of 0.26–0.47%, compressive strength of 153–192 MPa (162 MPa after freeze–thaw cycles) and flexural strength of 11–15 MPa. It is supplied polished, honed, brushed, flamed, bush-hammered or sandblasted and suits countertops, floors, stairs, window sills, facades and paving; sealing is recommended on countertops. The grey-white Chinese G623 is also sold under the same name, without the pink tones of the Sardinian stone.
Why choose Rosa Beta
- IUGS global heritage stone (2019)
- The most widely traded granite variety of Sardinia
- Frost resistant – for indoor and outdoor use
- Warm grey-pink look, uniform without veins
Technical Specifications
| Geological Type | Igneous plutonic rock – quartz monzonite (per the IUGS) of the Corsica-Sardinia batholith, commercially "granite" |
| Country of Origin | Italy |
| Quarry / Region | Gallura, north-eastern Sardinia – Arzachena – Luogosanto basin (Bassacutena) |
| Color & Pattern | Light grey-white background with soft pink to salmon feldspars and fine black biotite specks; medium, even grain |
| Hardness (Mohs) | ≈6–7 (typical for granite) |
| Density (g/cm³) | 2.58–2.65 (2.583 on an Italian producer's data sheet · 2.62 per DNSA) |
| Water Absorption (%) | 0.26–0.47 (by weight; 0.31 on a producer's data sheet · 0.47 per DNSA) |
| Compressive Strength (MPa) | ≈153–192 (153.3 per DNSA · 168.6 and 162.1 after freeze–thaw on a producer's data sheet) |
| Flexural Strength (MPa) | ≈11–15 (15.0 per DNSA · 11.3 on a producer's data sheet) |
| Frost Resistance | Frost resistant (DNSA); after freeze–thaw cycles compressive strength drops by less than 4% (168.6 → 162.1 MPa); suitable for exterior floors and facades |
| Acid Sensitivity | Resistant – as a silicate rock it is not etched by everyday acids; avoid strong acids and descaling cleaners, which dull the polish |
| Recommended Finishes | Polished, Honed & brushed, Flamed, Bush-hammered, sandblasted & hydrojet |

Export & project supply
SKARIS MARBLE supplies Rosa Beta to stone importers, fabricators, architects and hotel projects outside Greece. From our facility in Thessaloniki we handle the whole order in-house:
- Slab selection and matching – we grade and match the slabs for colour and veining, so a large order stays uniform across the whole project.
- Cut-to-size and finishing – pieces cut, edged and finished to your drawings, numbered per room or elevation and ready to install.
- Mixed shipments – Greek marbles, granites, porous limestone (porolithos) and quartz surfaces can be combined in one order.
- Export packing – crated and labelled for sea or road freight, ex-works Thessaloniki; delivered terms quoted on request.
Send us your drawings or quantities and we will come back with a quotation and availability.
