-Sinai Grey-
Description & Features
Sinai Grey comes from Egypt and, according to trade sources, from the Sinai area; geologically it is a sedimentary limestone that is sold on the market as marble. The slab has a deep charcoal-grey background with soft, cloudy shifts in tone and dense, tiny white specks of fossil fragments, which give the surface a fine, lively texture without bold veins. A honed finish brings out the velvety dark colour, and on request it can also be polished, antiqued or brushed; internationally it is also sold tumbled or brushed for outdoor paving. As a compact limestone it has a hardness of about 3 on the Mohs scale, while the other values in the table are indicative for this rock type rather than test results for this variety. It is suited to floors and wall cladding, stairs, sills and fireplace surrounds, as well as to exterior paving in mild climates. Because of its limestone composition it is sensitive to acids and needs sealing with a penetrating sealer; outdoors, sealing protects it from frost, the colour may lighten slightly with weathering, and rust-coloured marks from natural iron minerals may appear.
Why choose Sinai Grey
- Deep charcoal grey with fine white fossil specks
- Egyptian limestone from the Sinai area
- Calm, even look without bold veins
- Honed finish for modern, minimal interiors
