-Volos Veins-

Marble Greece
Origin: Volos, Magnesia (per the trade name)
Volos Veins is the veined version of the white-grey marble also sold as Volos Clouds, with a name that points to the Volos area: parallel, wavy grey bands run the full length of the slab. Its strong linear movement makes it ideal for wall cladding, floors and stairs with character.

Description & Features

Volos Veins is the same calcitic marble as Volos Clouds, in a selection dominated by veining. Its name points to Volos, and the wider area, with the quarries of Pelion, is indeed known for white and semi-white marbles, among them a white-grey marble of similar appearance. On a white to light grey background, parallel bands in various shades of grey ripple along the whole length of the slab, alternate with fine white lines and swirl here and there, recalling wood grain or flowing water – the look that the trade attributes to a vein cut. Consecutive slabs allow continuous patterns or book-matched compositions on walls and in bathrooms. For the white-grey marble of a quarry in the area, indicative values of ≈2.73 g/cm³ apparent density, ≈0.11% water absorption, ≈110 MPa compressive strength and ≈24 MPa flexural strength are given, and very good frost resistance is also reported. The slabs are polished to bring out the depth of the veining or honed for a softer look, while brushed and sandblasted treatments are available for exteriors. It suits wall and facade cladding, floors, stairs, bathrooms and vanity tops. As a calcitic marble it needs sealing and neutral cleaners, away from acidic liquids.

Why choose Volos Veins

  • Flowing parallel bands with strong linear movement
  • Suited to continuous patterns and book-matched layouts
  • Same material as Volos Clouds for combining in one project
  • Finishes from polished to slip-resistant

Color & PatternWhite to light grey background with parallel, wavy grey bands and fine white lines along the full length of the slab
Hardness (Mohs)≈3 (calcite – typical for calcitic marble)
Density (g/cm³)≈2.73 (producer data for a white-grey marble from the Volos area – indicative)
Water Absorption (%)≈0.11 (producer data for a white-grey marble from the Volos area – indicative)
Compressive Strength (MPa)≈110 (producer data for a marble from the Volos area – indicative)
Flexural Strength (MPa)≈24 (producer data for a marble from the Volos area – indicative)
Frost ResistanceHigh frost resistance and use on building facades in cold climates are reported for the white-grey marble of the Volos area; the low water absorption (≈0.11%) also makes it suitable for exteriors (to be checked per batch)
Acid SensitivitySensitive – calcitic marble; acids (lemon, vinegar, wine, descalers) dull the polished surface
